BREAKING: Benjamin Mendy launches 'multi-million-pound' legal claim against Manchester City

Benjamin Mendy has launched a "multi-million-pound" claim against former employers Manchester City over unpaid wages, a fresh report has claimed.
Sky Sports alleged that the full-back has filed the claim with the Employment Tribunal in the last few days, claiming "unauthorised deductions from wages" after he was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021.
Mendy, who continually denied all charges, was cleared of raping a woman and attempting to rape another in July.
It comes after he was cleared of six rapes at an earlier trial in January and one count of sexual assault, relating to four young women or teenagers.
Mendy is now said to be seeking the return of pay he is owed up until the end of his contract, which finished in June 2023.
A statement published by Sky Sports said: "Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages.

"Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023. The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal."
Sky Sports said City chose not to comment when contacted by the publication.

Mendy was for a short time the Premier League's most expensive defender when he signed for City from Monaco for £52million in 2017.
He won three titles with the Manchester club and was also part of France's World Cup-winning squad in 2018.
However the Frenchman last played for the Premier League outfit in August 2021.
He now plies his trade for Lorient in Ligue 1. He has made three substitute appearances so far in the league this term.
