Key detail 'cut' from the David Beckham documentary has been revealed

David Beckham's brand new documentary about the life of the former Manchester United midfielder included some fascinating tales, but one notable talking point was left out of the series.

'Beckham', a four-part documentary directed by Succession actor Fisher Stevens, has finally dropped on Netflix.

The show features never-before-seen footage from the last 40 years, as well as fascinating interviews with family, friends and footballing icons that have been part of his journey to stardom.

Rewind to 2002, Beckham claimed to be "honoured" to have been labelled a "gay icon" by the LGBTQ+ community.

However, that all changed when he decided to endorse Qatar, a country where homosexuality is illegal, for their role in hosting the world famous tournament.

Supporters felt betrayed and hurt by Beckham's decision to take millions from the Gulf state and turn a blind eye to a number of social issues.

But the documentary fails to cover any of this, and the reason for it's omission has since been explained.

Speaking about why he chose to leave it out of the show, director Stevens told The independent:

"It just felt kind of dated."

"Honestly, if I had another episode, we could have gotten into that. But it just didn't feel as relevant. When you're talking about a guy's 48 years, that was [just] a moment."
