Nation ranked 157th in the world could qualify for Euro 2024 despite only winning two games

A country ranked 157th in the world could still qualify for Euro 2024 despite winning only two matches.

During the final international break of 2023, the qualification round of Euro 2024 will draw to a close.

The heavy favourites such as England, France, Spain and the Netherlands have all sealed their place in next summer’s tournament alongside the hosts, Germany.

However, there are still places up for grabs ahead of the last round of qualifying matches.

One of the teams still in with a chance of playing in the tournament includes the fifth worst team in Europe, who are only ranked above Malta, Andorra, San Marino and Liechtenstein in UEFA’s Nations League rankings.

The nation in question is Moldova, who are one win away from reaching Euro 2024.

Moldova are currently in fourth place in Group E, with one match to go, they are only two points behind their next opponents, the Czech Republic, who are currently in second place.

To make the story even more intriguing, Moldova have only won two of their qualifying matches, a 1-0 win over the Faroe Islands and a shock 3-2 victory against Poland.

Their only defeat came against Albania, who are already through to the finals of the tournament.

Moldova will join Albania only if they win against the Czech Republic. Last week, Moldova got a vital point against Albania thanks to a late equaliser scored by Babohlo in the 87th minute.

Although it seems to be a tough task, Moldova have been given a big boost ahead of what could be a huge night in the nation’s history.

Three members of the Czech Republic squad were reportedly sent home after partying late into the night on Saturday.

The three players omitted from the squad are Jakub Brabec, Jan Kuchta and West Ham United full-back Vladimir Coufal.

Albania will seal top spot of the group with a win against the Faroe Islands.
