Federico Valverde rules out leaving Real Madrid amid Premier League speculation

Federico Valverde has ruled out a move to Chelsea during this summer's transfer window.

There has been plenty of speculation around the Real Madrid midfielder's future, but he has appeared to confirm that he will be staying with the Spanish side for at least one more season.

“No, no… I'm at Madrid," he told ESPN Argentina while on International duty with Uruguay ahead of his side's game against Cuba, having beaten Nicaragua already during the international break. "I'm trying to enjoy every moment and leave my mark on the best club in the world. I wanna keep winning titles for Real Madrid fans."

Madrid endured a difficulty year last season by their own standards, being knocked out in the Champions League semi-finals by eventual winners Manchester City and conceding the LaLiga title to arch rivals Barcelona, finishing 10 points behind Xavi's side.

Valverde played 56 games for Los Blancos during the season, netting 12 goals and registering a further seven assists.

He's been a vital player for Carlo Ancelotti, who will be staying at the club for at least another year, meaning he's likely to play an important role again.

Liverpool had also made a move to sign the 24-year-old, but Madrid president Florentino Perez pretty much ruled out the move almost instantly despite concerns over the midfielder's playing time following the arrival of Jude Bellingham.

Perez said that he would not entertain offers under £85million, though the player himself has no expressed his desire to stay too.

Valverde recently spoke about his future after attending the Copa Libertadores clash between River Plate and Fluminense.

"I'm a River fan, but I'm a fan of Penarol," he told ESPN. "It's my club in Uruguay. Before River, Penarol comes first. It will always be my first choice, although right now I'm enjoying being at Madrid, then we'll see."

Back in March this year, he expressed his commitment to the Spanish club by saying: "If they want me out of Real Madrid, they will have to kill me”.
