Premier League set to vote on transfer rule that could impact Man United and Newcastle

Clubs in the Premier League are set to vote on loan rules that could have an impact on Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Over the last few weeks, Newcastle have been linked with a loan move for Al Hilal’s Ruben Neves as both clubs are owned by the same owners.

The Magpies are reportedly targeting Neves due to the 10-month ban given to midfielder Sandro Tonali over alleged illegal betting.

However, according to The Athletic, clubs in the Premier League are set to vote on banning loans between associated parties for the January transfer window.

The report claimed that if the votes are approved, potential deals like Neves to Newcastle could be blocked.

Aside from Newcastle, United could be impacted as well due to the reported imminent investment from British billionaire and INEOS boss Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe currently owns French Ligue 1 side Nice and any players will not be able to be loaned to and from United if the new rules are approved.

For the rule to pass, at least 14 out of 20 Premier League clubs will have to vote in favour.

The report also stated: “The step has not been specifically designed to block Newcastle from signing Neves, rather it is part of a wider ongoing discussion about associated party transactions, including front-of-shirt sponsorship.

“But amid growing concerns among a number of its 20 members, the Premier League will endorse this significant rule change, even if it is only on an interim basis at first.”
