Getafe 'make final decision' on Mason Greenwood after just two months on loan

Getafe have made a decision on Mason Greenwood’s future just two months into the player’s loan there, it has been claimed.

The Spanish outfit are reportedly keen on turning Greenwood’s loan into a permanent deal, with the outcast United star having scored three goals and registered two assists in his ten La Liga games so far.

As per the Sun, Getafe executives want to negotiate with United about a transfer or an extension of the player’s loan.

An unnamed source told the publication: “Getafe have discussed trying to get United round the table so they can make an offer, which they believe could be attractive to United to get Mason off their wage bill.

"The likelier option is United agree for the loan to be extended as they know that Mason is happy and rebuilding his life.”

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and suspended by United after charges of alleged rape and assault were made against him.

Greenwood vehemently denied all the allegations and the charges were subsequently dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February after “key witnesses” withdrew their involvement.

United conducted a drawn-out internal investigation into the matter with the club ultimately concluding he would not play for them to prioritise the “welfare, wishes and perspective” of his alleged victim.

They believed such a move would help all parties including Greenwood “rebuild”.

That led to a deadline day Getafe loan move for the forward in September.

Despite the clouds hanging over his reputation in England, Greenwood has been warmly received by the Spanish club and their fans.
