Sergino Dest accused of having 'no respect' for teammates by his own captain as USA coach brands him 'dumb'

PSV Eindhoven loanee Sergino Dest has been blasted by his own captain and the USA coach.

On Monday night, the USA were in action in the CONCACAF Nations League as they took on Trinidad and Tobago in the second leg of the quarter-final.

Leading 3-0 heading into the second leg, the USA fell to a 2-1 defeat after Dest was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in the space of 30 seconds.

He said: “Not too many things I can say here publicly that we said privately.

“It's a complete lack of respect for the guys that are playing, for the guys that are on the bench. It´s a lack of respect for the game itself, for the referees.”

Meanwhile, USA manager Gregg Berhalter said: “It's inexcusable. It was surreal. It is concerning because that's not what we represent, that's not who we are as a group.

“As a team, the players, the staff, we need to hold him accountable because it's inexcusable. It really is. And we were very firm with our words after the game.

“He put a number of guys in jeopardy, made a number of guys do a lot of extra work in this weather, and it's inexcusable.”

He continued: “He's a young player. He's a fantastic part of this team. He's going to learn. He's going to grow. He made a dumb mistake. He knows that. He apologized to the team, and we move forward.”
